On November 25, the Raw Materials Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology held a symposium on the development of the electrolytic aluminum industry. Representatives from the Department of Industry of the National Development and Reform Commission, the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, and 11 backbone electrolytic aluminum enterprises such as Chalco, State Power Investment, and Weiqiao Group attended the meeting.

Representatives exchanged views on the production and operation situation this year and the development trend of the aluminum industry during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, and put forward policy suggestions on strictly controlling new capacity, expanding applications, promoting green development, and intelligent manufacturing. It is generally believed that the electrolytic aluminum industry has operated relatively smoothly this year, and since April in particular, driven by the recovery of domestic consumption, aluminum prices have continued to rebound, and profits have increased significantly. However, with the slowdown in consumption growth in traditional sectors such as construction, and the need to cultivate new emerging markets, the outlook for aluminum consumption during the 14th Five-Year Plan period should be cautiously optimistic. The risk of overcapacity should not be ignored. It is necessary to continue to adhere to the policy of strictly controlling new electrolytic aluminum capacity. At the same time, enterprises should continuously carry out technological innovation, strengthen refined management of energy consumption, environmental protection, and carbon emissions, accelerate intelligent transformation, and promote cost reduction and efficiency increase to improve the quality of development.
